Automobile Black Box

by Ed Ring, July 18th, 2008 No Comments »

Most modern cars now have onboard black box recorders, but the standard units typically only store the most recent few seconds of driving data.  They are used in accident investigations.  And consumers have already been able to purchase recorders that track your vehicle’s braking, acceleration, mileage, and spit out a report, extracting the data via OBD II [...]

by Ed Ring, June 18th, 2008 No Comments »

We have never simply posted a press release, but they remain essential to keeping track of what’s going on out there. Today we received two press releases, almost back to back, that have a lot to do with each other.

GE’s 4,500 HP Locomotive

by Ed Ring, May 23rd, 2008 3 Comments »

It’s always nice to know along with extremely high worker productivity and a very hard working people, America’s heavy industry is still able to deliver manufactured goods that compete and are sold on the global market.  What better combination of brawn and brains than a modern green locomotive, and in Erie, Pennsylvania, that is exactly [...]

GM Hybrids go Lithium Ion

by Ed Ring, March 5th, 2008 1 Comment »

Everyone tends to agree that 100% battery powered cars need batteries with energy densities only achieved with lithium ion technology, but virtually all hybrid cars still get by with nickel metal hydride batteries.  No more.
Today in Geneva, Switzerland, at the 78th International Motor Show, General Motors announced that by 2010 they will be using lithium ion batteries for their entire [...]
